Take Action
- MILLIONS OF CITIZENS COUNTERING MONSANTO'S BUSINESS PRACTICES
Given Monsanto's ongoing, criminally irresponsible record of disregarding human health and the environment, the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) is stepping up the pace in our "Millions Against Monsanto" campaign. If you're talking about Agent Orange, rBGH, water privatization, PCBs, or DDT, you're talking about Monsanto.
Sign the "Millions Against Monsanto" petition now. - Two years ago, California put in place a landmark policy to cut global warming pollution from new cars (40% of California's greenhouse gas emissions come from vehicles). The car companies' response? Nine of them, General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Toyota and others, filed a lawsuit to block the rule. Send a message to the car companies telling them consumers expect them to innovate, not put the brakes on progress. Click here>
2 quick actions to stop junk mail thereby saving thousands of trees and other precious resources:
- Urge AOL to stop its wasteful aluminum mailing campaign. These mailers use bauxite mining which destroys more of the earth's surface area than any other type of mining >
- New American Dream has joined with Forest Ethics and other groups to call upon five of the country's biggest catalog companies - all of whom currently use little or no recycled content -- to start greening the 600 million catalogs they pump out each year. Click here >

The Basics
- Reduce, re-use, recycle
- Reduce the amount of energy you use at home by simply turning off lights when you're not in the room, un-plugging idle appliances when not in use, including TV sets and cell-phone chargers, and turning your computer off instead of leaving it on all day.
- Reuse or repair something instead of throwing it away. Borrow or rent something instead of buying new stuff, or consider buying used items.
- Recycling includes buying recycled items - in fact it's one the most important parts of the recycling process. Look for products that contain the largest amounts of "post-consumer waste."
- These actions don't really take that much time, and may not seem that important, but you will be supporting a more sustainable way of living.
